Anyone removing the wicks from atty's?

I had mt first atty broke in and doing great, awesome flavor and vapor. Then it suddenly went south. Every hit still produced good vapor but tasted like burnt wet goat, or maybe alpaca.Really reminded me of the first time I tried ribs on the grill, LOL! This was after being cleaned a couple of times. I looked at the atty under bright light and saw a bunch of burnt looking black crap on and around the coil. I thought it was polyfill from the carts so I started pulling it out. Wow seemed like alot of it in there but I'm new at this so I removed it all. I thought I was gonna have to shiatcan the atty afterwords but the burnt taste did go away.
I now have 5 broken in attys and have gone through the same thing with all of them, break in period, then awesome, then burnt, then removed wicking material and awesome again.
I'm using the blue foam Dawn included as a freebie in my carts I can't tell a difference in vapor production or flavor after removing the wicking material. I have several new attys and am considering pulling the wick on one before even using it.
Am I doing something wrong here? I'm not complaining as my experience with Volcano has been awesome, just wondering if anyone else has run into this?

as long as the wick and bridge stay wet, the wick string should not get burnt (I say shouldn't but there are always the exceptions), and you should not run into the burnt flavor.
I did this on a 510 atty, but have not had to do it on a volcano atty as of yet.

I've heard of 510 drippers doing this... even going so far as to remove the bridge. I would not recommend this with the Volcano, but removing a burnt wick seems fine to me. Like Arclight said, as long as you don't let your atty get dry and run too hot, you should not be burning these.

It may very vell have been me, I smoked alot of analogs in a day, so I used these babies pretty hard. I now have 5 atty's in rotation, I consider them all broken in, great vapor, flavor, etc. Every one of them I have ended pulling the wicking material out of. They all still work great though.
Since all my atty's were used during break in and I was new to this whole thing, I think I'll break out a new one and see what happens with it.

I ran into this situation as well, kinda by accident. I noticed some loose fibers near the bottom of the bridge, and thinking they were excess fluval material, I grabbed them with the tweezers
. I pulled out the wick fiber which was ~ 1 inch long. Then I paniced, thinking I had done in my favorite dipping atty. But it seemed to work well without it, so I continued to use it throughout the day with no real issues.
But my technical OCD bug bit, so I actually (and so far successfully) put it back into the atty. I gently threaded it under the bridge, so that equal amounts were on each side. Then, using tweezers folded each end down towards the coil ending up with a small loop between each side of the bridge about 2/3 of the way down. I haven't tried it with a cart yet, but this is now and again my go to atty for dipping. It may be a coincidence, but it seems to produce better vapor than before
And, I haven't had any bad burnt taste from it either.

I would definitely not suggest that you try and stuff blue foam in as a replacement for the wicking material. I've burnt blue foam with it just resting against the bridge, bf underneath the bridge would be a really good way to get a ruined atty, I'm thinking!

Hey I keep having this problem as well. No matter what I do, I keep getting the burnt atty problem. I just cleaned my atties bc they started tasting burnt. Used the second set for a day, then they start tasting burnt. Clean them, whip out first set, use for a day. Then they taste burnt! I keep them moist and I change my carts once they are low, so why the burnt taste?
Also, it seems I can only fill my inner cart about halfway with juice. Any more and it floods over and I have to take the cart off, take the atty off, blow through it, and put it back on. By that point, I have wasted a lot of juice, and there is only half left in the cart anyway. All of this trouble is making it a royal pain to keep away from analogs. Can someone please give me valuable information that could help me get through these problems? I dont want to start smoking again, but I am also getting fed up with constantly having problems with this stuff...
To give you an idea of what my set up is so maybe you can make suggestions...
I use a Volcano w/ Blue Foam in the carts....I have tried blue foam at the size of 1/4 x 1/4, and I have also used it at the size of 1/2 x 1/4. It seems the latter works better, only bc it lasts longer. But either way, I can only fill the cart up halfway with juice, then put the BF in without running into flooding problems.
