Bitter Wizard, Vape Wizard
by thevapinggun » Sun Apr 10, 2011 9:13 pm
I've tried FlavourArts Bitter Wizard twice and Vape Wizard once, all on different DIY tobaccos. They seem to have erased the flavors. This was at 1 drop in 5ml. I thought these were supposed to improve flavors, not eliminate them. These might be a way to make your AssJuice vapable. If anyone has any tips on these, I would like to hear them.

Congrats on post number 500 !!!!
Both of these additives, considered 'tweakers' have their uses.
But only in selective recipes, and are only going to make a limited difference.
For the most part, both are really only for those 'almost but not quite' situations, where a recipe is OK, but just needs a little 'something extra' to make it "good".
And there is no guarantee that even in those situations, adding either will actually accomplish that.
Like most DIY, it's trial and error to a large extent. And some flavoring combinations will respond better than others when using these additives. By and large, the better approach is to just develop a well balanced mixture that doesn't need them in the first place.
Neither ingredient will take a "blech!" juice an make it vapeable....
By some reports, the Vape Wizard actually includes the Bitter Wizard components, so you definitely wouldn't need to add both.

Thanks, Dave. I read where Vape Wizard had Magic Mask in it. I didn't know it had the Bitter Wizard as well. I kinda figured I didn't need both at once though. The recipes I used them on were close, but inconsistant. Flavorless is consistant, so success!
I suppose there is a chance that the flavor will come back once these go through the ripening process again.

I stand corrected...
You are right..
It is the Magic Mask, not the Bitter Wizard, that is contained in the Vape Wizard
To be honest, I very, very rarely use any of them, and it has been
quite some time ago that I did my experimenting with them.
It seems to me that the Bitter Wizard and Magic Mask work best with Fruit type flavors.
Vape Wizard, for the most part, seems to add a mellowing sweetness, but as you discovered, also tends to mute or blur flavors a bit. Not a bad thing, if you have a blend of flavors, and one or more are trying to be a bit too dominant in the overall perception.
None of them are anything that I would think a tobacco blend would benefit from, unless it was some sort of sweet/honey/fruity type of pipe tobacco flavor you were trying for.

An update. After the flavor disappeared, all I got was floral notes. I cured/decanted the bottles overnight. A few days later the flavor of the tobaccos has started to come through and the floral notes are gone. The flavors in the juice have blended, which is kind of nice, more like analogs. The flavors are still muted which is not nice, at least for these juices. The Bitter Wizard might have left a drier aftertaste than the Vape Wizard, but that could just be the different juices. Otherwise, I can't tell the difference between the two. I'm going to continue to experiment with these juices, but so far they don't seem very necessary.

You might also try "heat steeping" the juice, where you immerse the bottle of juice in a shallow bowl of 140-160 degree water. The general rule of thumb with this method is: one hour of immersion equals one week of steeping.

Thanks for the tip. I don't think I'd heard that one before.

Wow thanks maddok, that is a great tip! The things you learn from this place
Now can you leave it in longer or is it only recommended to do one hour?

For heat steeping: do you keep the water at the 140-160 temp (adding water as needed) or let the juices cool in the water? tia!!
