I dont want to sit there and tell them "some assembly required". The older crowd see the LED and start laughing or running away- now if I need to hold their hand and show them the simple task of assembling the device... I guarantee that would eliminate some percentage of any possible sales. I know, and you know, that it is really not that hard. If "normal" cigarettes had to be assembled every time one was to be smoked, this conversation would never happen.
I think that's part salesmanship part personal habit. I agree, showing an "unfinished or unassembled" product isn't always the best of ways to get a product sold - however it really is all about presentation, IMO.
Since the Magma is 3 parts I routinely show each part and explain what each part does, and my shtick is that it's quicker for me to assemble and vape than it was for me to take the cellophane off, take the foil off, take out a cigarette and light it. Depending on who's around I may even ask for a smoker around me to demonstrate alongside me. I have the older style MPack and I do demonstrate that it disassembles to fit if you so desire, or explain that you can use the MPack for what I think it's intended purpose is: to cart your carts, and your extra battery. I usually wrap that portion of my spiel with the biggest difference between an analog and an eCig - I take a puff and put the eCig in my pocket. Good theatrics, no?
I routinely convince younger and older folk of the glories of switching to eCigs. The fear of technology may play a part but it's all on you to work around a known "objection" before it comes to the active mind. Remember, there are smokers out there who still handroll their own cigarettes; complete with fashioning a filter. For me that's a little overboard to save a few coins, but I still smoked regardless of the "Cowboy way" of smoking.

P.S. - If I've convinced you, I so have some property in Florida that we need to talk about!
