can only vape half cart...help please

Postby willbeein2003 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 4:12 pm

I have a problem which I did not see addressed in a search, so I am again going to ask for help.

I put in a cart, vape and it is great. When I no longer get a TH and vaper seems less I change the cart. I can see that 1/2 of the cart still has liquid. I tried putting the filler back in upside down, cleaning the atty, topping with a couple of drops of liquid. I have tried replacing regular fillers with blue foam and I have the same problems. This problem happens on prefilled carts and the ones I make myself.

At this point in time, I am removing the filler and putting it in a syringe so I can reuse the liquid when I make new carts, so at least I am not losing it. But, it means changing carts consistently.

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions I haven't tried?

On a second issue, battery charging. I currently only have one manual battery (waiting for some in the mail) and two auto batteries. Because of lung problems I use the manual only unless I am charging it. It seemed to me that I was charging real quickly, so I paid real attention to it last night. It was fully charged before bed. I took about 5 vapes and then went to bed. This morning I sat down for a wonderful vaping session (my new substitute for coffee and a cig) and it was dead in 15 minutes. I have only had this manual for about a week, so it is not old and worn out. Does this sound normal? My autos last longer - they can make it through the whole time it takes to charge the manual and then some. Any thoughts?

I did not mean to write a novel...thank you in advance for all your help. By the way, today is two weeks without an analog and I have no desire to go back. :D :D :D

this is the reason i am not happy with carts (and cartos.) it's why i pretty much drip.

as far as the battery, that sounds suspect. the only thing i can think is maybe the button is lodged and it is firing on it's own? unless anyone else has any ideas i would contact customer service...

oh, one more thing. try charging it all night. maybe you are seeing it turn green momentarily and taking it off the charger too soon?

Congrats on the 2 week mark!!! That's awesome!

So far as the 1/2 full carts, I use the "thermometer flick" to move the juice toward the wick when things don't seem to be happening. Blue foam, PTB, anything I've used, I still have to do that, just can't seem to get the steady juice flow others talk about. I also never let things run down anymore...I'm always just topping off..but this is with bottled juice...not the pre-filled carts. If you have a blue foam mod going on, someone mentioned to me that you may have to do some trimming of the foam...that there's a sweet spot for the cut that allows the juice to flow better. You can also "fluff" the filler to make sure it's contacting the wick as it often kind of shrinks down into the inner cart after you're puffing a bit.

So, I do think that the manuals have the potential to drain faster since you are typically (or I am) hitting longer/harder than if it were an auto...not sure how fast exactly...and I don't know your exact vaping style. If it seems way too short though, I'd call customer service and let them know. They may do some trouble shooting or let you know they'll send another batt if it needs replacing. Joey has a good point to be sure that it's not the first sign of green but staying solid green for a bit so you know it's fully charged not doing the strobing color thing that happens before it gets fully charged.

i've noticed on my manual battery that it does the strobing thing, then will turn green for 5 seocnds, then red or orange, and when it is fully charged, stays green for good. this does not happen with my autos. so now i just leave that guy plugged in until i am sure it's charged. it's taken quite a while sometimes, a few hours...

I will try that with the battery, but I do have a concern. The manual said to not overcharge or the battery would actual start losing the charge. Perhaps this concern is making me taking it off the charger the minute I see the green. I am charging right now and will make sure the green is permament this time.

I am glad that I am not the only one who does not seem to be able to vape the whole filler. As wrong as this sounds, it always makes me feel better when I am not the only one with a problem. At least I don't feel like a complete idiot.

battery charge update....my light turned green. I took it out of the USB port and then put it back in. The light is now red again. It looks like I may not have been charging it all the way like you said. I will keep you posted.

pyroclastic ash informed us that the usb chargers are now smart chargers, and will not overcharge your batteries, though it is wise to take them off due to voltage fluctuations, etc, it's not necessary.

Regarding the batt issue, check the battery subforum - good advice there for checking it out. I've been very happy with the manuals compared to the autos. Volcano CS is also excellent in terms of helping you troubleshoot and/or exchanging if its needed. Can't say enough good about them in that regard.

Regarding the half cartridge problem, I've been doing this for a few weeks and encounter the same thing - except with one of the blank carts I got from Volcano. I can vape it dry - it also gives me excellent draw using the stock filler. Pre-filled carts and the rest of the blanks all do OK - but will "vape dry" when they're still half-full - even with the thermometer flick or tapping them cart-side down a few times.

There may be some manufacturing variances in the the carts that make some better than others - seems unlikely but odder things have happened. ;)

Magna blank carts have been out of stock since I started, so I have been using the prefilled carts (and filling them when empty). As soon as I can I will be getting the blank carts - maybe that will be better. For now I will continue to stop half way and just be happy that I learned not to throw them out without sucking the rest of the juice out of them.
