Changing Juices w/ Polyfilled Cartos for TubeTanks

Postby mycarsifarst » Sat Dec 03, 2011 4:38 pm

OK, so I loaded up some juice that I thought would be really good in the tube tank....turns out it wasn't (big surprise :x). I was thinking of a way to clean out the excess juice from the carto without flushing with PG (I don't have any) or washing them with water (apparently a no-no). So I did this really quick, and it's based on a filling method I had seen a while ago.

First, take the carto out the tubetank and do whatever you want with the extra juice inside the tank. Take the carto and place one of the carto-condoms on the top, like so.

Now take a little bag, I had this one laying around. You should fold the bag in half and near the top, poke two holes next to each other through both layers of the bag. Unfold and should look like this...

Place the carto in the bag upside down, so the threads are facing the top of the bag with the holes.
Image

Fold the bag over again, and line up the holes. Thread a string, I used fishing line, through the holes so that it securely holds the bag in a semi folded position.

Now start swinging it in a circle like a wild person. the faster that you swing it, the more force will be generated to pull the juice out of the polyfill and out of the carto. Depending on how much juice you had in the carto to begin with, you might have to do this several times.

This is what mine looked like when I was done the first time, followed by what the polyfill looked like the second time (the juice I got out was neon pink...damn pomegranate lemonade).

There will probably be some extra juice in the inside lip of the carto, I just got it with a q-tip or paper towel. I'm sure there's going to be some residual flavor left behind, but this at least helps speed up the process of switching flavors.

Good idea, but have an extra carto handy in case the string/line breaks and you sling it out the window.

Good job cars! Just be careful when doing this that you don't spin it to the point where the bag tears where the holes were made. A flying carto projectile might really hurt someone. :o

LMAO you guys, I never even thought about it. Turns out I screwed up that carto anyways becuase I made the holes for the juice feeding way too big...and now the carto's drunk on e-liquid. It's nearly unusable since I get nothing but gurgles and almost no vapor....oh well, lesson learned, and I can't wait to get some replacement single coils.

@my car. i screwed my first DDC to by making the holes way too big as well. at first i made the prepuched hole a little bigger. and it was perfectly wicking. on my next fill i decided to punch another hole in it to see if it would be even better. well the carto was wicking alright. just couldnt get it to stop. FAILED! lesson learned. dont fix something that doesnt need fixing.

A little update on the carto that I thought I ruined....It's working, quite nicely actually. It's draining the tank about half way when I finally insert the carto the entire way, I guess it's just filling in all the voids in the polyfill. I had pre-primed the carto before I put it on the tubetank because I thought that would help, but I guess I didn't fully fill it. I'm on my second full fill, so we'll see how that long it lasts. I will say that the flavor does seem a little muted, it might be because of the extra liquid, and it does get to the gurgling point if I even try to take a dry pull...I don't know, but I do know that I won't be doing this to anymore of my cartos, maybe just punch a second hole...

My way is more dirty I just put my mouth on the fill end and blow threw it into the sink. Takes only a few minutes and it is pretty much clear. I do this every couple days before I refill so as to get our used/excess juice. Seems to prolong life. I may try the bag trick. A centrifuge would be perfect, need a med supply store!
