Clearo's leaking or overwicking?

Postby HDGVapor » Wed Nov 02, 2011 6:20 am

I have noticed when I go to use my clearo's after they have been sitting for a while they seem to have some juice on the outside of them. Is this likely leakage or due to the overwicking I have heard about? And in either case, what can I do when storing them to prevent this? Its kind of messy. I am not losing a lot of juice really, just don't like getting it all over my hands and feeling greasy. I store them on their sides BTW. Also, I store some of them attached to my Magma autobats...is this bad, as it will get inside the battery?

Can you tell if it's leaking from the air tube or the base of clearo tube? I try to keep my clearos upright most of the time. When I lay them down, even for a short period of time, the juice just flows through the inner cup seal and leaks all over. For me, this is due to enlarging the wick notches in the seal.

I can't tell..the juice seems to be on my batteries when they are assembled though so I tend to think its coming out that end.

I never store my clearos on their side either. I bought a toothbrush holder from Target that holds 4 of them, and I keep all of my filled and assembled clearos in there on my coffee table.

storing filled clearos on their sides is not a good idea, as that will allow the juce to over ride the wicking effect and jsut flood the coil cup with juice allowing it to flow both out the mouth piece and flood the top air chamber as well as drain down the center air shaft and (if an auto battery) flood out the battery.

You should always try to keep the filled Magma clearos and cartos in the upright position. Thats the one down side to top coil cartos and clearos, gravity is the only thing keeping them form flooding and leaking. leave them on their side too long and they will flood out in no time.

thanks...probably explains the gurgling sound when I first fire them up too :) I will try storing them upright and see how it goes.

I store mine on the side, as they are typically filled and sitting in the Inferno case. Thanks to Artist I found some old carto condoms and put them on, which minimizes any possible leaks, but just give them a wipe after taking the condoms off and before handleing so as to not have greasy fingers. I too get the gurgling sound from time to time, even in the upright position (as a result of enlarging the cap around the wick), but just give it a good suck or two before firing, and that clears any juice which may have run down the neck. Draw back, yes, enough to overcome my use HELL NO! I have just chalked it up to maintenance of clearos. I also carry some alchol/wet wipes with me in the case so as to clean up greasy fingers, and to wipe down my Inferno with each day, as the saying goes "cleanliness is next to Godliness"!

you're welcome, and yup that would be why they are gurgling, the coil cup is flooded.

im with jaggle on this one, i too keep mine mostly laying down, and they don't leak on me, unless there is a small crack in the tube down by the base which a piece of clear tape seems to fix just fine. i also keep both of the seals in with a drip tip on it so it leaking out of the top would take a lot of juice overwicking which i have never experienced, and i GOUGE those notches in the inner seal pretty big. i keep em in my inferno case and before i screw one on, i take the little paper towel i keep in the case and blow the flood out into it on the threaded end, and it works just fine. i mean sure there is a small amount of juice loss using this method, but juice is pretty cheap and the amount is so insignificant that i don't really mind, and to me its better than driving myself crazy trying to keep them upright all the time. Besides, its nearly impossible to do when they are in the case and on the go....
