Diabetes/ Sugar levels
by webfloater2.0 » Wed Feb 08, 2012 8:14 am
i am thinking about getting an inferno for a friend of mine to help quit smoking... who happens to have diabetes. so my concern is the sugar in the juices, the levels and how it interacts with the body? is it the same as eating / ingestion by inhaling? can you tell me a bit about this?
thanks
thanks

Not sure on a scientific level but I do have Type 1 diabetes and am on insulin and check my sugar at least 4-6 time a day and record it and have been vaping ( mostly tobacco flavors and vanilla bean) for about six weeks and have noticed zero effect on my blood sugar readings. However I would recommend your friend do the same because in my own experience some foods ect effect my blood sugar different than some other diabetics I know. I do sometimes however notice a rise in Blood pressure if I vape too much but that the effect is much worse with analogs and I'm sure is attributed to the Nicotine.

I'd like to chime in also if I may
My husband is a type 1 diabetic and I tried him on vaping for a while to get off the dip because it's gross.
Anyway, like deadaim, my husband didn't have any issues with the sugars in juice (and we watched! His insulin pump keeps pretty close tabs on his sugar) , HOWEVER, diabetes is funny sometimes and affects everyone differently. A diabetic can even react differently to the same thing from time to time
It's solid advice for any diabetic to keep close tabs on both daily sugar levels and A1c levels.. especially when trying something new like vaping.

I to will speak up. I am Type 2 Diabetic, on metformin.
To raise blood sugar you must metabolize sugars, typically if you register low blood sugar (below 80) you take 1 serving of sugar, 15 grams, and then recheck your blood after 15 min. If it doesn't come up enough then repeat.
That being said the point I make is you need to take in a serving, 15 grams, and that will affect your levels.
During vaping, I am not taking in a serving of sugar. I am not sure how much vape would equal a serving, but I would guess it a lot. I vape 6-10ml a day and no affect.
Nicotine will cause a sudden restriction of blood vessels, but this is a short term affect, and nothing I have seen causes high blood pressure from nicotine. Now smoking does, but it's not the nicotine.
Now as a diabetic, it is smart to consult your doctor and monitor your levels to see what it does. Our bodies are diff as they are similar and can vary.
In a report I just read, there is a link to nicotine helping/promoting blood vessel growth and for diabetics that have circulation issues this could aid. I will post a link to that article.
Bottom line is smoking is not our friend. Like my doctor said if eCigs help you to quit, GREAT, step 1 complete. Then you can deal with stopping vaping, but not sure I want to do that! LOL!
My levels have not gone out of balance, I am staying in control...DIET DIET DIET!
