Have a few questions...

Postby Denin » Wed Jul 14, 2010 8:19 am

Hello!

I've been eyeballing e-cigs for about a year now since my boss got one and started trying it out. I've finally decided to take the plunge after a bit of research. I'm going to grab a Magma starter kit, and was looking for a bit of guidance.

1. The pack comes with one atty. I've read around on various forums it's always good to have a spare or two. Should I order a spare(s) now or wait until later?

2. I've seen info about priming the atty's. Is there a guide anywhere about ways to do this, or should I hold off until I've had some time with the VP under my belt before looking into this?

3. The kit comes with two batteries. Is this good to start with, or should I order another battery or two in my first order?

Any other advise or tips are greatly appreciated and thanks for your time to look this over! Apologies if this is covered elsewhere in the forums

Thanks!

I always recommend buying at least one spare with the initial order. I just bought a kit for my brother and threw in a spare atomizer just because it really sucks to have one arrive DOA. Customer service will take care of DOA stuff, but you still have to wait until it ships.

Also, depending on usage, they can die quickly (just ask my husband). It sucks to have your only working atomizer go dead and not have anything as backup.

This just means to let it soak in juice. Not the whole thing, just drop a few drops on the bridge and let it soak in. This is especially important after cleaning the atty and it's completely dry.

I've found that two batteries is enough to start with. I've only rarely had a battery die before the other is finished charging (usually when I'm out @ a bar or something). You may want to pick up a spare or two down the road, but two batteries should be enough for starters.

Denin,

First, congrats on making an excellent choice on which company to purchase your PV from. I, personally, think the magma is an amazing way to go...so, let me see if I can help you with your questions:

1. The pack comes with one atty. I've read around on various forums it's always good to have a spare or two. Should I order a spare(s) now or wait until later?

I would recommend getting at least one other atty...and if you buy 2 you get a discount, so might as well get 2...you will want them anyhow. If you're feeling saucy (and you have the funds), this is the item you'll probably purchase more of...so buy as many as you feel comfortable with...the others will be spares.

2. I've seen info about priming the atty's. Is there a guide anywhere about ways to do this, or should I hold off until I've had some time with the VP under my belt before looking into this?

There are some suggestions on ways to prep the atty's...the magma attys appear to have a much shorter break in time then the volcano atty's...and I don't even notice the "primer" taste many people talk about. If you put a cart on and let it sit flat somewhere for a bit before you vape, it's supposed to help. Some of this will make more sense once you actually have the stuff with you and try it. Basically, you need to make sure the juice is getting to the wick of the atomizer...and it takes a little bit to get things running at first. Some people say to clean the atty before use to make this easier...others don't...there are proponents of every approach. I find that simpler is better...I just use them without doing anything....let things happen for a few minutes after you put the cart on initially and things should work. You can check out the thread for newbies that is very helpful and may answer some of the question you don't even know you have yet also....it can be found here

3. The kit comes with two batteries. Is this good to start with, or should I order another battery or two in my first order?

Again, like with the atty's if you're going to order one, might as well make it 2 and save some money. Most people do add more batteries than what comes with the initial pack...so, you can, but you don't have to...personal preference really...if you do smoke a lot, you may want to have more than 2 batteries so you don't wind up with everything needing to be charged at the same time (and no way to vape)...

1. its always good to order a few extra that way you can rotate them out while one is being cleaned you dont have to go without :D

2. Not really that ive seen. Just remember when you first put a cart on you should try and keep the battery facing upwards a bit, this prevents from flooding the atty and a mouthful of juice  (not pleasant) if you get the liquid you could put a few drops of that on it to make sure the bridge is wet then put your cart on.

3. as with number 1 you can never have to many batts. you might have one go bad or drop it or a multiple array of unforeseen things can happen. plus you might want to put another magma together with a different flavor and having extras will accommodate that. Plus you will notice that buying 2 of the batts\attys you get a instant discount.
If you use the discount code that can be found in the forum you can get an extra 10 percent off. Also if you come to the chat tonight on vaporspace they can help with any questions you might have since the owner and some upper people in the company will be there. sorry to ramble, if you have any question just ask and you will get answers pretty quick

Another reason to purchase multiple atomizers is to dedicate one to different flavors. For instance, I always have two running my favorite go-to or 'all day' vape. Then I try to keep at least two other flavors going so that's 4 attys right there. I always keep a brand new spare just in case which doesn't get used. If I use it.. I order another. Sometimes I will also order 2-3 spares when my attys are over 60 days old. The lifespan of them if you take care of them can be a long time, but people like me who abuse them, don't clean them regularly unless they get clogged, or drip with them may find they last about 90 days on average. I have a couple that are just about 100 days old and although they work great I can't get a nasty taste out of them, so for all intensive purposes they are dead to me because I won't use them. Until you end up with a half dozen attys or so, i'd add at least one (and as mentioned there is a discount for 2 or more) to each order if possible.

One thing I learned (after the fact!) is that even if you order the Deluxe Magma kit, you should also order the following add ons on your initial order if you can afford it.

1) 2 spare atomizers - these are the engine that drives your PV.
No atty = no vapor. No vapor = back to analogs.
Order two to get the discount. As long as you continue to vape, (hopefully a LONG time!) you will need to replace attys from time to time. May as well start off on the right foot!
2) 5 more 5 packs of carts in the flavor of your choice, or a matching bottle of juice in the flavor(s) you ordered, or both - You will go through carts faster than you think you will, especially at first. Just like the attys, it's no juice = no vapor. No vapor.... you get the idea! A matching bottle of juice lets you top off the carts and/or refill the empties. Be sure to do a search for Evil Ernie here on the forum for his vid on how to reclaim the unused juice in 'empty' carts! You will be amazed at how much is left when you think they are empty!
3) 2 spare batteries, since the kit comes with autos, manuals would be my pick. - The batteries are what power your PV. If you have two and both are working properly, most people can get by with vaping with one while recharging the other. Some folks can drain a battery faster than they can recharge. Or maybe you will have a problem with a battery, or just plain forget to charge your other one. Uh oh! No battery = no vapor. (see the pattern?) Since I prefer manual batteries, I'd pick the manuals for the extras. (even though I ordered my extras as autos because I didn't know any better!) If you are going to order extras, why not give yourself the choice of auto or manual? Order two to get the discount, and because 4 batteries is better than 3 no matter how you look at it.

And of course, don't forget that if you order these on your original purchase, you also save yourself the added shipping costs when you realize you should have ordered them, and wind up ordering them anyway (like I did within 3 days of receiving my first order!)

Other things you will want to order, if not right away, on your second or third order.

1) A USB Pass through - This lets you use your PV without a battery by connecting to your computer's USB port. Great when you are 'stationary' for a while!
2) A drip tip (or two, or three) - Volcano just added these at a great price. Sooner or later you are going to want to try dripping the Magma, especially with a pass through or manual batteries. Do it right, do it in style. Besides, you can't beat the price!
3) Caps for your blank cartridges - If you are refilling your carts, these are a must have accessory
4) Another USB charger - So you ordered the extra batteries, right? Now the M-Pak will charge one, and the USB charger you already have will charge another. What will you use to charge that third one, while vaping on the fourth, especially if you are going to be out for an extended day, and might need all of them charged? Or leave one at home, and one at work, so you never have to worry about forgetting to bring a charger with you!

And for the record, I'm a member of the wash the attys first before the first use camp! :D

As Dave has said, there are many items I would recommend to add...for the ultimate starting kit....my initial suggestion was for the minimum requirements for a solid start...I definitely think you need more atty's to go with the deluxe...other stuff's gravy...good gravy...gravy I would not personally go without knowing what I know...but I may be indulgent....as my credit card company now knows and loves LOL

Oh hell.....Since you are about to embark on a wonderous journey into the world of Vaping.....I say just buy as much as you can afford to right from the get go.... ;) ;)
I myself have invested about a grand over the last 6-8 weeks in assorted juices, DIY inventory, gear, etc....and about to drop another $100 or so as soon as the manual batts get in...

And as you search the threads here you will find that some time in the future we are going to over run with a Zombie Apocolypse....and you will want as much inventory as possible.... ;)

Congratz on deciding to leave the analog world.....and Welcome to the Vaping world and Volcano!!!!!!
