the few 2000 IMR's we ordered and got straight from AW are a tad longer and allow the cap not to screw on all the way. Which will cause issues with people and add stress to the device.

I guess I have to wonder if I have the real thing, or not. Because my cap screws tight. So is someone just reprinting a higher mah rating on the battery?

The real difference is within the AW batteries themselves.. As there is a variation in size from one AW to another.. This also holds true for the 1600's as well as the 2000's.. Just place two or three 1600 IMR AW's next to each other and you will see there is a difference in length.. The only reason there has been no problems with the 1600's is because they are all under the 65 mm length.. The 2000's on the other hand are almost right at the 65 mm mark and some exceed it by just enough to cause a problem.. If you place two of the 2000's next to each other. You'll see that one is a bit longer then the other..
Also I have seen one AW 2000 fit perfect into one lava tube while not being able to close the gap on a second lava tube with that same battery.. So there are your factors..
Personally I think that the Lava tube will have the end cap milled to fit both types of AW's but that will be in the second version of the Lava tube, which is only inevitable to happen at some time or another...

Lava Tube high mAH batts

I'm having really good results with a Panasonic CGR18650CH 2250mAh. So much so that I've ordered another one ($8 from a US based vape site). In one of the flash-light forums one of the kustom battery providers shows this battery outpacing the AW IMR 2000 on most test criteria and I've not found the AW IMR for anywhere close to $8.
Volcano ya'll should look into carrying these for the LT.

Believe those are unprotected Li-ion batts, which we don't recommend but with the safety's in the LT are ok to use, but we highly recommend IMR batts.
They may out rate the IMR's but the added safety of the IMR's is more important to us than any added performance from less safe batts.

I am not sure what the chemistry is or how it compares to Li-Ion or IMR... I read Panasonic's goal (Li-Ion capacity with a safer composition). Lemme see if I can find the link... Here's the DATA SHEET. Granted this is mostly marketing fluff but it does show that it's not Cobalt base Li-Ion. Maybe you can sleuth out what it is... I'm not seeing it. They do recommend for use in devices with protection. However, since the battery can draw 10A... don't think we gotta worry there. I'd guess the LT would never try to draw more than 4~5A into the boost circuit to achieve 15w (2.5A output at 6v). Is there any official info on max battery draw?
I'll find the battery test charts and append the link to them later.

I am a bit busy to research battery info. They might be the newer style batts; Li-FePo4.
I have heard there have been accidents with Li-FePo4 batts..... its all about what you feel safe with using. we have had great experiences with the IMR- LiMN batts and we are sticking with them. There may be more powerful ones out there..... but with more power comes more risk.

I agree with Artist Boy on this subject. I purchased a 2200mAh battery to go with the 2 1600 mAh AW IMR's I bought from Volcano. Right away I noticed that if I set my Lava Tube to 6v it would turn the device off as soon as I tried to vape it. I immediately switched back to the AW IMR and got rid of the other battery. I just purchased a couple more of the AW's to be safe. My opinion is that it's not worth the risk to my device or myself just to get a bit longer between batteries so I stick with what Volcano recommends. Keep up the good work Volcano!!!!
