Magma Atty issues

Postby Bradc » Mon May 03, 2010 1:04 pm

I have two attys that have taken a huge performance hits. Its take a huge draw to get a little vapor.
It feels like there is something blocking the vapor. I've tried cleaning them and it just doesn't seem to
solve the issue. Do I need to get one of those jewelery cleaners. If so which one?

Try cleaning the battery and atty threads with a dampened q-tip of rubbing alcohol and wipe dry before using. I don't use a jewelry cleaning machine, but I hear many rave about what a wonderful job they do. How are you cleaning your attys now?

Brad, do they work if you drip onto them?

I only drip with them now. Last time I just swished them around in warm water. I was going to try 70% Alchol.

Can I use Hydrogen Peroxide?

I boiled one a while back but it didn't work.

I have no idea if it is the "right" method, but I soak mine for at least 4 hours (sometimes over night) in 91% alcohol. I then rinse them in hot water, blow or shake them out, and then let them dry for about a day. Seems to bring them back to life, and helps dissolve any weird flavors I might have lingering in them. Sometimes they'll get flooded and will just stop working for no reason, or put out very little vapor. The alcohol soak seems to dissolve the buildup.

A couple of days ago I had one completely stop for a few, then I'd remove it and try another and go back to it, and it would work again. Was putting out about half as much vapor, then would quit. I put it in a small bowl of 91% alcohol and for the first 20 minutes or so there was no discoloration of the alcohol. An hour later I came back and the alcohol was pink because it had finally dissolved the watermelon it had been flooded with.

perfect! thanks! i'll be trying this tonight. mine is currently acting just like what you said. it's putting out VERY little vapor. i can switch attys then come back to that one and it works for a few puffs, then it's out again. i'll give that a shot though.

I'm no expert but I think they use the crest to nullify certain flavors that they've vaped and can't get out. Otherwise I have no idea. I have some sitting right next to my bottle of 91% alcohol and I always just use the alcohol. DO wash it out with hot water afterward though, the first time I tried this I got the bright idea that the alcohol would just simply evaporate over night. Bad idea.. the taste was horrible. Whatever that other 9% is, it isn't good lol. Rinse them generously with hot water afterward, or soak in boiling water (or just-boiled water) after the alcohol bath to get that crap out. The atty should be like new when dry.

After they have dried over night or for a day, I usually put a fresh cart on them for a few min afterward, or add 1 drop of PG to the bridge to prime them and put an outter cart cover on them (like they come when new) for storage. Sometimes when they are good and clean and dry they don't want to vape well the first few tries because they are not primed. If that happens, prime them with 1-2 drops of PG or your favorite juice you're about to vape. Just don't do much more than 1-2 drops because you'll flood it again and end up having to re-soak in alcohol.

My attys give me the most trouble when I've flooded them with too much eliquid in a cart (or done the thermometer flick too many times lol). I guess when an atty finally dies on me, the alcohol bath won't do any good, but it has so far. I also use the manual batteries almost religiously so I may wear out an atty faster than someone with a auto cutoff. Who knows. ;P
