Pass-Through Technical Issues Thread
Pass-Through Technical Issues Thread

If you are having a problem with your USB Pass-Through, like it does not activate, dead on arrival, melted to your table, ect.
You know... Problems.
Post them here.
This will keep all the passthrough problems in one section, so it is easier to help you guys. Having 5 threads about the same thing will make the forum cluttered and difficult to find information, or receive assistance.
Try to keep this thread on topic, I will prune out needless posts to keep it as streamlined as possible.
And I do not care if you post repeated questions in this thread. I don't expect everyone to read through a billion posts to see if there is another person with the problem already resolved.
If you post a technical issue outside of this thread, it will be moved to this thread unless it warrants it's own individual thread.

Anyone else having Pass-Through issues?
by NewNonSmoker » Wed Apr 07, 2010 2:07 pm
Hey y'all,
I just got my Pass-Through in the mail today, and after all the anticipation & excitement, it didn't work!
I first tried it in my USB port, and when that didn't work, I tried it with the wall adapter. Still nothing. I'm so bummed, I was dying to try it after all the good things I heard about it. I've already e-mailed Volcano Customer Service about a replacement (which I'm sure will be taken care of quickly, as Volcano gets such high CS marks), but I'm wondering if this has been happening a lot with the new generation of Volcano/Magma Pass-Throughs, or If mine was just a rare occurance?
Any feedback is appreciated!

do you have any other usb's in the house you can try it on? I know my PT doesn't work with the wall charger usb, and my old desktop. Because the usb isn't suppling enough mA, the PT works best at 1000mA or 1 amp. Just a thought. I use mine with my usb wall port for my iPod nano. 5v 1amp. Works great.
Hope that helps. Or maybe you just got a bum one.

Thanks for the response A.B.
You know, I don't have any other USB's that I could try it on....I had it hooked up to my Mac Mini, which I figure should be sufficient since it powers my other USB-capable devices. I also could have swore that I read somewhere on here that the Pass-Through could be used with the wall charger, but I could be mistaken.
When I received my package, the box that the Pass-Through came in was crushed, so that might have had something to do with it, but I don't really think so. I think I may have just got a faulty unit.
Oh well, I'm sure they'll make things right, and considering that because of their products I'm no longer a smoker, I think I can be more forgiving with them than most other companies. Plus their customer service seems to be top notch!

Evil Ernie just reported back with some test results and found that it runs at 3.7v. this means that it only needs 500mA. the chargers as well as the mini mac should run it just fine. I would suspect that it was DOA and to give CS a call if you havent already
Washington has Volcano's too...Lots of 'em

Thanks Pyro!
Thats what I figured, just DOA. Not too big a deal I guess, so long as I get a functioning one in a reasonable amount of time, all will be good.
I've emailed customer service, now I'm just waiting for their response. The last time I emailed them, they got back to me within 24 hours, so I expect about the same response time.
Thanks again for the info, good stuff to know. Evil E, if you're reading this, thanks for doing the research!

Ordered USB Magma Passthrough not working
by triumphbiker » Thu Apr 08, 2010 2:35 pm
Hi, I just ordered the passthrough for the Magma and I am not getting anything. I know the atomizer works, as I screwed that onto a known good battery. The USB end of the passthrough is going to an AC adapter (that is also a working AC adapter). Is there anything I am missing? There has never been any heat since I plugged it in, or anything happen. Is there a led light? Any help would be appreciated thank you...

Are you drawing and there is just nothing happening? I don't believe there is a light since I don't see one on mine... are you pushing on the button? My apologies if that's a dumb question, but I find myself forgetting sometimes that the PT is manual, not automatic, so the button is necessary.

There is no LED on the new PTs.
I would pull the usb cord out of the PT housing, and re-insert it. Then try plugging it into a working USB port on your computer.
I have some USB devices and cords that dont like the AC adapters.
See if that works (hoping it does!)

Try different USB ports, depending on the hardware on your computer you could have one of the older, and immensely annoying, USB controllers that don't properly source power to a device hooked into controller port two unless a device is plugged into controller port one.
