Pop ups all over Volcano

Postby musicinpink » Fri Oct 07, 2011 1:18 pm

I am on my laptop and I keep getting pop ups from internet explorer. I just installed ad blocker plus for fire fox. The pop ups are coming from internet explorer. I don't know why Volcano's site is getting pop ups all of a sudden. I just thought I'd let you guys know.

Is anyone else experiencing this or is just my computer? On my desktop this does not happen.

If you're using firefox and getting internet explorer popups, then it is not the website. Sounds like you have a virus or some other malware on your laptop.

Oh great! That's all I need is a virus. You're probably right though.... Time to download AVG...

Avast anti virus is better. Get that and run a boot scan. Also malewarebytes and Ccleane (all free) are get tools to use.

I'll bet it's a toolbar that's installed, and not a virus. Just my opinion.

Why would a firefox toolbar be launching ads with internet explorer?

IE Toolbar, not Firefox.

Yes, but he said he's using firefox, not IE. If he's not using IE then there should be no IE toolbar coming into play.

One other solution is the DNS service. If you are connecting from a free connection e.g. internet cafe or bookstore, coffee shop, etc.... sometimes they partner with a Marketing DNS solution. This would allow popups to come even without having spyware or adware installed on your computer as it would force you to see the advertisement before it would allow you to view someone elses website.

My suggestion is to change your DNS from auto on your computer to Google's DNS site.

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

There are several guides on how to do this.
