Pre mixing a base liquid
by Shred909 » Sat Apr 30, 2011 11:03 am
I am looking into getting into DIY juices. I would like to be able to mix a large batch of 80/20 6% nic base liquid to work with that way I only have to handle dangerous amounts of nic once. My thinking is once i have made my base, then all I will have to do is add flavorings and i'll have my very own (tank friendly) batch of e liquid. Anything i should know before doing this? is this advisable? Any possible issues before i get into doing this?

It's certainly doable --
I personally don't like to add the VG in until I'm actually mixing a juice since it goes bad quicker than PG -- and somewhere down the road -- maybe not for yourself but a friend -- you might want to mix a higher nic juice... maybe your friend would need a higher (or lower) percentage of VG, etc...
If I were you I think I'd just cut it down to 24mg and then use that for you mixes... it just allows you more options

I sure hope you mean 0.6% w/v 6% would be 60mg
see I don't like that there is 2 different measurement systems for mixing. Since they are not the same and someone is going to kill them selves doing this wrong. Please everyone pick a measurement either by mg or w/v and stick with it.

Yeah, that is what I mean, sorry. I will be using MGs to measure all my liquids.

Shred, I use RDW's calculator and I make up 120ml of both my sweet basic recipe and my unsweet basic recipe. Then when I want to make a flavor I just add 10% flavoring (depending on the size bottle I am making) and fill to the top with my basic mix. Works great for fast diy and less mess.

Those recipes are here; http://www.volcanoecigs.com/forum/diy-recipe-masterlist-compiled-t3776-30.html If you have RDW's calculator, you can adapt your base nic level, your desired nic level, your vg levels, etc. to make your own basic recipes.

I may or may not be understanding your original post correctly. You wish make a batch of 80/20 6% nicotine liquid to use as a base and then add different flavorings at a later date?
This won't work for several reasons. First, adding the flavoring to the base will lower the nic level. Second, as most flavorings are PG based, it will change the PG/VG percentage. You are doing this primarily so you won't have to work with dangerous levels of nicotine on a daily basis? I suggest taking your nicotine (60mg or 100mg) and cutting it into a safer "working" bottle. Working with anything 36mg or lower is considered a safe level. You should be aware however that nicotine can be absorbed through the skin, so care should be taken when working with nicotine at any level. Wear gloves and work on a tray or some other surface where an accidental spill can be contained.

That should read "80/20 6mg base liquid". I get confused too.
I would make your "working" bottle some multiple of 6mg in order to make the calculations easier. A 24mg or 30mg "working" bottle should work out well for you.
