A question of flavor.

A question of flavor.

Postby radiantthought » Thu Sep 29, 2011 7:29 pm

Okay, so... I'm officially one day in. I've given my new inferno a decent break in this evening and I've got some questions about things which I'm hoping some more experienced folk might be able to clear up.

First my setup: Inferno 650 with magma atty using a bunch of the $.99 cartridges in an effort to try out flavors (so far tonight -- watermelon, bluemelon punch, milk chocolate, coffee, cherry)

Also, I'm not a smoker, I've smoked hookah a little in the past, and wanted to try this as an interesting alternative to that, which I can enjoy more often. (also I got one for my mom to get her off analogs) So, I'm doing it purely for the experience, mostly 0mg carts. Having said that, I can't stand th, or coughing/burning, I want flavor.

I've noticed that the only way I can seem to get a decent flavor out of these is if I start pulling before I press the button, just do a brief press, and then pull until after the button stops being lit. I pull into my mouth, and then inhale it after it's had a second to cool off, or just directly exhale through my nose. As a rule, when I don't begin the drag before, or keep pulling after the button press, things taste kinda burnt. Not the bad burnt like when you finish a cart. I've hit that a few times and know what it's like, but the flavors are distorted/muted and taste more burnt to me.

Now, I've found that after taking a couple of good drags off a cart, if I remove it, and use the drip-tip while just using what happens to be left on the atty, I get a lot more good hits, with a lot more flavor. So, by increasing the airflow, which causes the atty to dissipate heat faster and heat the liquid LESS that seems to be giving me the better flavor. This runs counter to everything I've read which is that dripping gives more flavor because it's got MORE heat, and this is why people use low-res atomizers.

So, my question is this, what gives YOU the best flavor, and why?

Also, does this echo anyone else's experiences? Any thoughts on this from more experienced members? Things to try to enhance flavor? I'm certainly curious to try dripping now, and will be ordering a dropper or two of liquid sometime soon.

I think dripping gives the most flavor with clearos coming in a close second. clearos give of a really warm vape though because the coil is so close to your mouth.

when dripping, you're taking out everything that blocks flavor from getting to you - like the plastic cart, filler material in it, and so on...

the magma atty is a good atty all around for a variety of flavors. I use the true LR attys (Inferno and Lava) generally with darker liquids because they tend to taste better as a warmer vape. I'll use 2.0 ohm (slightly lower resistance than the magma attys) cartos with pretty much any flavor.

if you've got a syringe laying around, you can extract the liquid from the carts and drip with it instead of using the carts. there's a plastic inner cart that you'll have to push out with a paperclip through the mouth hole. you can then use that outer cart (without the plastic cart inside) as a mouthpiece. you'll just have to take it on and off to redrip. when I first started dripping, that's what I did. I also widened the mouth hole of the outer cart with a screwdriver because it made the vape better.

Oooh, good idea, I'll hit up a drugstore tomorrow for a free syringe to give that a shot. And no need for removing the inner cart, I've got a drip-tip. I bought it precisely for clearing out the atomizer after finishing a cart before switching flavors, I just didn't realize that it would instantly become my preferred method.

I've also been considering using a small bit of tubing I have on hand to try and see what drawing through a tube (cooling the vapor down) does for flavor.

in order to get the liquid out, you're gonna need to remove the inner cart though.

and there are vendors that sell goosenecks. that could help cool the vapor down. just googled it, but the only place I can find is totally twisted. oh, and I didn't realize they're $20.

I'm sure you know this, but I'm just going to say it... make sure that tubing isn't anywhere where it can melt. don't want to be inhaling plastic.

Yeah, no worries, it's tubing from another vaporizer device I have, and I was gonna attach it to the drip tip, not anywhere near the atomizer.

Okay, this is my new favorite thing.

Most flavor I've found yet! That's simply a mouthpiece on a 6" length of clear tubing slipped over the end of a stainless steel drip tip.
Also... :shh: it almost completely removes the throat hit and allows me to take long deep inhales of perfectly cooled vapor, but don't let this get out or the th police might come to get me.

If I were going to make one of these from scratch I'd probably use a tube properly fitted to the drip tip, this one is suuuuper snug and likes to slide off the end after a couple minutes.

Now thats getting more like a hookah. No TH and all flavor.

I have done things like these before but kept it to myself as the TH Police can be brutal at times...

Good job on it, looks nice.

Well, that was my original idea, something similar to hookah (which I enjoy) but without the hassle of water, and coals, and shisha, and "ohshit the cat knocked it over", etc. To boot it's portable, has tons of flavors, and you already know the rest I'm sure.

I'm also trying to get as much experience and knowledge in for now, because tomorrow will be the real test, introducing my mother (a 20+ yr analog smoker) to her new inferno.
