My Tankomizer Quick Clean & Dry Method
by MrCrowBar » Mon Oct 17, 2011 4:13 pm
Hey guys and gals... I'm new to this board, and fairly new to vaping. But I just wanted to share what I think is a great way to dry the tankomizer. I read in the Official Tankomizer thread that it's recommended to let this thing air dry for 8+ hours or even overnight. Well, for people with just one tankomizer this is a big problem. Although I just received my 2nd tankomizer in the mail today, I figured I would post what I worked out as a great way to clean and dry this bad boy.
As for the cleaning part, whatever way works best for you. As for me, I simply grab an empty plastic water bottle. I fill the bottle with scalding water from my tap... my water heater is set on high of 170 degrees.
Well, as you can imagine... it's hot. As I read in this topic, it states to microwave the water. Whichever gets you some hot water. Anyway, I simply fill the bottle half way with water, then drop in the tankomizer. Screw on the cap, and gently shake it a few times to get some agitation going. I keep it in the bottle of water, shaking it gently a few times here and there, for about 20 min total (or until water starts to cools down). I empty the water, and then repeat the process about 4-5 times. At the final time, empty the bottle, and then blow out excess water.
OK... So to dry this thing, here is what I do to cut the dry time waaaay down. I know it sounds silly, but trust me... it works great. Take a normal house fan with plastic casing, turn on to med or high, and simply insert the tankomizer into the plastic shield where the air is coming out the best. Just put your hand over front until you find the perfect spot, insert tankomizer, and let sit for about an hour... maybe a bit longer. Take it out, turn it around, and then reinsert. If you don't feel safe doing this, then find the perfect spot, shut off the fan, insert the tankomizer, then turn the fan on again.
Trust me, I've done this about 5 times and it works perfect every time. The tankomizer dried for me in about 2-3 hours, with no problems. Now I don't want anyone messing up their tanko's, but again... I've done it this way about 5 times with the cleaning/drying... and it works out great. I just put in a fresh tank of some fine Pure Tobacco.. flood it out a bit with no battery, then take 5-10 drags of vapor without inhaling. After a few more puffs, the flavor is back, and tanko is hitting great again.
Please let me know what you guys think!

my first concern would be using tap water to clean the tanko. there are minerals and contaminants in tap water that could be dangerous.
secondly, I'd also be concerned with drying the tanko with a fan. I'd be nervous that dust and other things that float around in the air would end up getting caught in the tanko.
if you're flooding the tanko anyway to prime it, why not just flood it with liquid right after cleaning? if you choose to do that, you won't have to let it dry at all.

I always recommend distilled water due to impurities in tap water, be it city water or well water. Well water you have way too many minerals, city you have chemicals, scale, hard water....
the fan.. would blow too much dust and other debris into the atomizer and with it still being wet would cause it all to stick to the atomizer.
edit: I see rawr beat me to my points but I will post it anyway

I can understand using the distilled water vs tap water. I guess the way I look at it, the few puffs with the battery connected and without inhaling should ultimately clean those out. Never thought about if it would actually damage the atomizer. So far so good though.
As for the fan. Hmm... Might be a bit of a stretch saying there will be 'dust and debris' blowing in the tiny hole on the battery side. I keep my carpet swept regularly and the house fan is very clean.
And I also know micro dust does blow around that we can't see... but enough to clog up the atomizer? Guess I never thought about that.
Anyway... just thought i would share my way with other vapers, as my method worked out great for me every time I've tried it. I do have two tanko's now, so the 'quickness' isn't needed like before... Guess I was just in a hurry to get my vape on.
