Using Vinegar to clean my Atty

Postby austeregrim » Thu Jun 16, 2011 7:50 pm

I've decided to give up my secret.
Here is how I clean my attys.
This is performed with an I-tanko, but of course you can do this with, well anything but cartos.

Tools Required:
Your Dirty Atty
Aprox 30ml or more of vinegar
Aprox 1 cup of distilled or purified water
2x Cups
Pliers or some way to hold your atty
Eraser gum if your using metal pliers
Paper towels
10ml Syringe

1) Fill one of your cups with vinegar.
2) Fill syringe with vinegar, and spray through atty, 3 times.
3) Blow vinegar out occasionally
4) Drop atty in vinegar, let soak.
5) Fill second cup with water, and heat in microwave for 2 or 3 minutes.
*Take care with hot water, as you can superheat distilled water in microwave. Please understand microwaving distilled water before performing this.
6) Fill syringe with hot water, and spray through atty, 3 times.
7) Blow water out occasionally
8) Drop atty in water, and let soak. Till comfortable.
9) Let atty dry, or flood prime to clear water out.
10) Happy Vaping. :D

This is my first instructional video, please be kind. EEp! :shifty:
Also I was tired, and I don't know how it sounds.

Thanks,
Austeregrim

I'm tempted to try this sometime. I do hate the taste of vinegar though. I'd have to make sure to get it out really well with water.

Doing the flush with the water gets the vinegar out. I promise.

Some things to keep in mind here. Vinegar is a weak acid. Meaning that long term exposure is going to damage the coil in the atty. Short term exposure may be ok, but without testing it, I don't know. Atomizers are made out of dissimilar metals, which means that the way an atty is made, it will become a weak battery while it is in the vinegar. I have no idea what type of current it could produce without out testing, but I would expect it to be minimal. There could also be a slight risk of galvanic corrosion and/or hydrogen embrittlement of the coil but I would be kind of surprised to see that with vinegar.

It could also not be a problem at all given the life span of an atty. Just things to keep in mind. :D

A 10% vinegar solution works better for me than a pure vinegar does. Denture tablets work well for me also.

I would assume this is more the case, I don't expect anyone to keep an atty for longer than 6 months.
And I would doubt any acidic changes would be damaging enough to make any difference within the lifespan of an atty.
I just know that it cleans well enough for me, and makes my vapors taste yummy. :D

If i kind find enough left of an old coil, I will run some experiments soaking it in vinegar :D for scientific purposes of course

Get one of these things, cut the tip off and power flush that atty. Keeps your lips off the hot metal and away from the hot liquid. Safety first! When finished, use it to blow it out as well.

Vinegar does work really well, it'll even strip the paint right of the atty too ;)
